Reno Support Group Meeting

Understanding Calories and Nutrients

All members, guests, caregivers, family, friends and professionals are invited to join your fellow HIANN members at a Support Group Meeting (SGM) in the Raleys “Gathering Room,” a conference room in the store on the righthand side by the beverage section. (Look for the HIANN signage.)  We will have a guest speaker who wiil provide a discussion on healthy diet. Space is limited to 15 people as that is the all room will accommodate,. Painting Class in Carson City

HIANN Painting Class In Carson City

Come join us again this year for our annual painting class with the same instructor we had the past four years, Teresa Sexton. Our in-person class will be held at Teresa’s Studio in Carson City and will be limited to 25 participants.

Please note that if you have not paid your 2024 membership dues before our class begins, you will not be allowed to attend. Also, if you make a reservation and don’t show up, you will be charged the $28 for HIANN’s cost per member for the class. Guests are welcome but must pay the $28 cost to participate.

HIANN Nutrition and Cooking Class

Nothing-to-It Culinary Center

HIANN invites all members and caregivers to join us for our second nutrition and cooking class hosted by our friends Maggie and Sheri from the Nothing To It Culinary Center. The class will be held at the Center in Reno located next to the Meadowood Mall. Maggie and Sheri are accomplished chefs and instructors and will be sharing their expertise with us and discussing the importance of nutrition and your health, followed by a hands-on cooking demonstration. HIANN participants will be given personalized instruction on cooking a healthy meal. Recipes will be provided along with other surprises!!!!! 

When:  Saturday, June 5th from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

 Who: Space is limited to 20 participants on a first-come first-serve basis

Adaptive Skiing

HIANN Sponsored Adaptive Skiing & Boarding Event 

With Achieve Tahoe At Alpine Meadows Ski Resort

 When: Sunday, March 17, 2024 From 12:00 To 4:00

HIANN is again sponsoring a skiing event through Achieve Tahoe, another local non-profit organization, for any interested HIANN Brain Injury Survivor. The event will include ski rental equipment, lift tickets, and a personal lesson from expert Achieve Tahoe instructors. For those survivors with mobility disabilities, Achieve Tahoe will recommend one of the different skiing options as indicated in our photographs above. For those survivors without mobility or balance issues, Achieve Tahoe will provide individual lessons for boarders and skiers. Guests, family and caregivers are encouraged to attend to take pictures and provide transportation. This event is only being provided to survivors in good membership standing.  YOUR  MEMBERSHIP DUES MUST BE PAID BEFORE THE EVENT OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.

 Lesson requirements include:

· You must provide your own form of transportation to the ski rental location at Alpine Meadows and then on to Alpine Meadows Ski Resort Achieve Tahoe office.

· If you are interested in an adaptive skiing lesson, you must not exceed approximately 185 pounds for sit down skiing. Achieve Tahoe provides all adaptive skiing equipment.

· There is paperwork to process for Achieve Tahoe. It must be completed and received no later than March 1. This will be sent to those that indicate they are interested in participating.

· It may be cold, so you must have proper clothing for a skiing adventure.

· You must make your formal reservation with Sue by February 21 at susanbaumruck@gmail.com or call/text (775) 771-2950. No reservations will be taken after this date.

HIANN Bowling Tournament

HIANN survivors and members enjoy a friendly bowling tournament and pizza party.

HIANN  Bowling Tournament and Pizza

 Come join us at our eighth annual HIANN bowling tournament in Carson City on November 24th.  In addition, we will be serving Pizza and Drinks while you bowl.

We guarantee that you will see some of the worst bowling ever seen in your lifetime but we will have a lot of fun. Some of the lanes will have bumpers and the bowling alley will provide a ramp to help those that have issues with either picking-up or rolling a bowling ball, so anyone can participate! There is no cost to HIANN members for our bowling event or dinner!  Guests may join for $10.  The event is limited to 20 people so sign up asap.
